Art Camp 2010 Weekly Descriptions
Week 1 . June 7th-11th Impress Me!: The Impressionists taught us so much about color & light and feeling with paint. We'll learn from those who broke with tradition to paint their "impressions" of the world-and then break some traditions of our own! We'll use charcoal, pastel and acrylic paint to create a series of landscapes like the Impressionists did in the late 1800's.
Week 2. June 14th-18th Sculpture Week: Students will create art out of found objects creating collages and 3-D forms. Experimentation with mediums like balsa wood, wire, paper-mache and air dry clay will be a great introduction to sculpture. Students will be encouraged to use the landscape of the CNC to inspire organic and natural art.
Week 3. June 21st-25th Art Expedition: In this camp, we'll look at nature through the eyes of an artist. We'll explore color, pattern and texture in nature and use what we see, hear and feel to inspire original artwork. Each day, the camper will explore the CNC and create works with many mediums, including charcoal, pastels, acrylic paint, and collage, to find their own style and create art from the beauty already in nature.
Week 4. June 28th-July 2nd Eco-Imagination: This week, campers will use their imaginations to create Andy Goldsworthy inspired creations, using materials that are available in nature all around us. This camp is for children with active imaginations and will allow them to explore in a creative and non-traditional way, producing environmental sculpture. Kids will be encouraged to redefine their concept of what art is and how it is created.
Week 5. July 12th-16th Color Me Green: Is it easy being green? In this camp experience we will explore the native leaves in the CNC and use the trees as our subjects. Art mediums will include charcoal, pastel, watercolor, wax resist, acrylic paint, and printmaking. Enjoying and learning from the landscape and appreciating nature is necessary because students will use it to create art. Printing with leaves and drawing and painting them in nature will be a great introduction to experimentation and perspective.
Week 6. July 19th-23rd Impress Me!: The Impressionists taught us so much about color & light and feeling with paint. We'll learn from those who broke with tradition to paint their "impressions" of the world-and then break some traditions of our own! We'll use charcoal, pastel and acrylic paint to create a series of landscapes like the Impressionists did in the late 1800's.
Week 7. July 26th-30th Cool Blue Water Paintings: Summer is Hot! Hot! Hot! Cool down with some art instruction focused on drawing with charcoal and pastels, and acrylic painting while studying CNC water landscapes. . . we'll use our creek and water pond for inspiration.
