Texas Historical Foundation Partners with CNC

Texas Historical Foundation Partners with Cibolo Nature Center To Move Preservation of Herff Farm Homestead Forward.

  • Funds received from the Texas Historical Foundation's Jeanne R. Blocker Endowment in August 2010 will help the Cibolo Nature Center stabilize the Herff Farm Homestead. Specifically, the THF funds will be applied to the repair of the stone walls at the 1880's farmhouse. Once that is complete, the farmhouse will be used in the Cibolo Nature Center's educational programs. Because small communities often have limited resources, THF's Blocker Endowment is specifically aimed at assisting with projects in rural areas of Texas, with a population of 30,000 or less.
  • According to Tom Doell, of Dallas, THF president, the grant request from the Cibolo Nature Center is the kind of proposal in which the Foundation has particular interest. "The Foundation board could clearly see the hard work that this group of preservationists was putting into the project. THF always looks for community support in the projects it endorses, and we were pleased to see that the San Antonio Conservation Society, Preservation Texas, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation were involved with saving the Herff Farmstead." He continued, "THF was pleased to become a partner in the effort to save this valuable piece of our state's past."
  • Since 1954, the Texas Historical Foundation has funded preservation and education projects around the state and helps promote the cultural legacy of Texas. In the past 12 months, 21 grants totaling more than $72,500 were given to organizations across Texas.   The Texas Historical Foundation is one of the only groups in the state that carries out its mission without taking state or federal funds. The organization relies entirely on donations, memberships, and contributions to fund its preservation endowments.
  • The Foundation invites members of the Cibolo Nature Center to join as THF members and help support important preservation projets, like the Herff Farmstead renovation. Memberships start as low as $35, and all members receive the award‐winning quarterly HERITAGE magazine, which covers topics relating to Texas history, preservation, archeology, and architecture. Please visit the THF website at www.texashistoricalfoundation.org to submit a membership online.
