Prairie

Prairie land once covered massive amounts of Texas acreage, but is now one of our region's most endangered ecosystems. This pocket of prairie contains the tallgrass species that our ancestors knew, such as Big Bluestem, Indian Grass and Switchgrass. The prairie provides habitat for many small animals, as well as food for hawks and owls. The Friends of Cibolo Wilderness manage the prairie restoration through research and controlled burns.
