Trailblazers Camp at the Herff Farm (ages 11 through 15)

Spend the summer with the Cibolo Nature Center & Farm! We offer a half-day experience on our beautiful 160 acres immersed in nature and inspiration. Our sessions are filled with hands-on experiences where kids can gain skills in: science, writing or photography. Trailblazer camp will mix advanced learning from experts with fun time spent exploring Cibolo Creek, our gardens and trails. 

Registration costs increase from $160 to $175 per camper at 9am on Monday, June 3rd!

REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY
Registration fees are non-refundable unless determined by a medical emergency or illness. A doctor's note must be provided for a medical cancellation refund. Any other refunds are subject to a $25 cancellation processing fee.

Science Camp - Adventures in Water Ecology


June 8-12
9am-1:30pm
Calling all kids interested in the environment! Learn about the challenges with our water in the Hill Country and how we can all get active to be good stewards. Did you know that over 1 million gallons of water goes into the Trinity Aquifer from Cibolo Creek every day? We will explore the role of water across the Hill Country's rivers and the various issues people are facing globally. While gaining valuable science experience in testing water quality and learning how to purify and clean water -- we'll also have fun in the creek, at Herff Farm, and at the CNC.

Writing Camp - Poetry


June 15-19

Do you want to learn the art of poetry? Come to Herff Farm for a week of writing, inspiring authors, and exploring in nature. Learn to find metaphors, symbols, and themes from the immense beauty of Herff Farm. Write and read poetry beneath the twin oaks, on the porch of the Herff House, and by Cibolo Creek. You'll have time to explore 60 acres of nature, write, share with peers and submit your work to our Summer 2020 Magazine.

Photography Camp - Photojournalism

Join us for a special week-long photography journey on the 60-acre Herff Farm to explore the beautiful cypress-lined creek, trails, heritage oaks and wildlife galore. Together with the help of our digital cameras we will document and tell a visual story of Herff Farmk and discover some of the pressing environmental issues to photograph to make our world a better place! You will have fun in the creek and across the land as we explore, take photographs, share with peers and submit your work to our Summer 2020 Magazine.

Science Camp - Adventures in Wildlife Biology


July 6-10

You can make a difference in the environment right here at CNC and at Herff Farm! We will learn about what it means to protect and develop habitat for a variety of species to support a thriving ecosystem. We'll get up close and interact with local birds, reptiles, invertebrates, amphibians and we'll practice real-world land management techniques. We'll explore every area of the CNC --the creek, prairie, marsh, woodlands. And at Herff Farm we'll work on the small-scale farm and create lasting wildlife habitat. You'll walk away with skills to support humans working together with nature for the future of our place and our planet. We'll have plenty of fun in the creek and across the land as we explore and learn.

Photography Camp - Nature Photography

Join us for a week of nature photography on the 60-acres of Herff Farm where we will explore the beautiful cypress-lined creek, trails, heritage oaks and wildlife galore! We'll discover the patterns and textures that are everywhere in nature. We will search high and low to document nature's unique qualities across multiple ecosystems. You'll have time to explore, take photographys, share with peers and submit your work to our Summer 2020 E-Zine.

Imagine the stories that Herff Farm can inspire! With the compelling backdrop of the tree-lined creek, trails with heritage oaks, and wildlife galore, you can find your creative writing voice with us. Come find inspiration and bring your story to life! We'll be inspired by writers and create a workshop environment to share our short stories with each other. We'll talk about techniques that make fiction stories real to readers. You'll have time to explore 60 acres of nature, write, connect with peers and submit your work to our Summer 2020 Magazine.

Science Camp - Adventures in Environmental Science

What can we do to protect the wildlife of the Texas Hill Country and beyond? Learn about backyard wildlife, such as raccoons, possums, and squirrels, and the roles that they play in our ecosystem. Trees are the lungs of the planet, and right here in the CNC, we will take tree crown surveys and plant trees for healthy land, wildlife and people! We'll learn how we can support global efforts such as the recovery of the Monarch Butterfly and what we are doing to help. We'll have plenty of fun in the creek and the woods as we get up close to the living ecosystem of the Cibolo Nature Center and the 60-acre Herff Farm.

Writing Camp - Nonfiction

There are stories all around us, and nonfiction writing is about picking out the threads that can be weaved together to inspire others. With the backdrop of the tree-lined creek, the farm, and the nature trails, wear the hat of a journalist, advocate, science writer or historian to craft your narrative. The ongoing research at the CNC & Farm will provide us with lots of data, science and history that you can use or we can discover our own stories along the way. You'll have time to explore 60-acres of nature, write, connect with peers and submit your work to our Summer 2020 Magazine.
